File your return in Office Excel

Previously, I shared a step by step guide on how to file your Kra tax returns online, but if you encountered any difficulty in filling the Microsoft Office Excel form, I have a straight forward guide for you here. To file your returns, make sure your system meets any the following requirements;

  • Windows XP SP3 or later, with Microsoft Office 2007 pRO sp3 or later
  • Windows 7 all editions with Microsoft Office 2010 or later.

I shall start by explaining how  fill the downloaded Office Excel form, assuming that you have already read this Post and if you got stuck along the way, refer to this post for help.

After successfully downloading the the zipped file from the KRA iTax Portal, open the zip and extract the Excel form.

Extract the form from zip

After extracting your document, click on enable editing at the top panels.

Enable editing your form

Click on ‘Enable content’. Content here means macros. Enabling this option lets you fill the form, and only available in Microsoft Office 2010 and above.

Enable macros

Next, fill all the required fields as they appear in your P9 form, starting from your Pin to the end.

This is how it looks like.

Filling the excel form

After filling all the require fields successfully, Click on ‘VALIDATE’ at the end of the document, and wait for about 2 minutes.

Validate your form

A popup will show up, asking if you would like to generate an upload file. Click yes and you will find your zip document in your documents folder, ready to be uploaded. You can refer to this post on more accurate information about uploading your returns. Remember, the process above should not take more than 10 minutes if you have everything ready.

Good Luck as you accomplish your responsibility as a patriotic Kenyan.

  2. My computer is windows proffessional xp service pack 2. I try to open ITR form in my office 2007 excel but it keep advising me to upgrade to office 2007 service pack 2 which i already have. What could be the problem?

    1. Hello Peter, Windows Xp SP2 may work, with office 2007 sp3, but I recommend upgrading your system to windows 7 or at least windows xp sp3, if your machine doesnt meet the requirements for win7.
For office, only Office 2007 Sp3 can work with macros. So try to install SP3, or upgrade to office 2010 which is supported by windows XP 3 and above.
      Hope that helps you.
